Last year Laneway was a fun summers day out with a range of different acts to take in. Whether you wanted to rage to Denzel Curry or drift along in the night to Florence and The Machine, there was something for everyone. Here’s a few of my shots from last year:
But the lineup this year has had come mixed reviews. In saying that though I love the lineup as I’m all about a festival having some of everything. And here’s a few artists that you should go check out:
The headliners – THE 1975!
Now I’m probably a bit biased when it comes to The 1975. They are one of my favourite bands but they have such a diverse range of music and I really think there will be something you will like. They put on a great live show and if this helps get you excited, we will be the first to hear some of the new material off their upcoming release MUSIC FOR CARS!
I’ve seen Charli XCX live a couple of times yet this is the only photo I can find. This is her opening for SIA. She also played her own small party here. She brings so much energy and just really feeds off the crowd. Her new album Charli.
Ruel has been non-stop! Constantly touring the world with his new EP Free Time (which is great and you should check it out)! I was lucky to catch him recently in Auckland and his show is so fun, colourful and his vocals are on point.
Benee performed at Laneway last year and with the release of her new EP Fire on Marzz, it’s no surprise they’re bringing her back! She is such a fun performer.
J.I.D puts on an insane high-energy set and delivers his tracks live with ease. You sometimes wonder if he even breathes. I was lucky enough to catch him at HIDDEN Festival and if that video doesn’t entice you to see him I don’t know what will.
Mermaidens are a new band I’ve recently come across and I’m sure you’ve probably heard of them by now too. I’ve only seen them briefly but I definitely think you should check them out asap!
The new stage: Alfredo’s Dance Tunnel Stage!
Surprising. Mysterious. Legendary. These are the words that describe both Alfredo Cerda, the namesake of Laneway’s newest stage, ALFREDO’S DANCE TUNNEL, and the experience you can expect when some of the country and the world’s most exciting new electronic talent hit Laneway Auckland in 2020.
Alfredo, Melbourne icon and long-time friend of the original St Jerome’s Bar, was a regular presence in the early days of the Laneway Festival. He was a Mr Fix-It, a regular MacGyver, who would often appear out of nowhere to solve all your problems and guarantee a great show.
It is in this spirit that the Laneway Festival presents the new dedicated dance stage: Alfredo’s Dance Tunnel, featuring scene-leading local dance parties alongside some world-class talent putting some doof into your favourite day in the park. Read on for the full line-up.
The 2020 Laneway Festival is bringing you summer’s best line-up of local and international acts returning to Auckland’s beloved urban greenfield space, the ever-elegant Albert Park, on Monday 27th January – hands down, the absolute BEST way to celebrate Auckland Anniversary Day!
This year’s line up is massive. Including the fastest-rising act in the world. This year’s Hottest 100 winner. The most exciting rock band on the planet. A pop artist who is as successful as she is boundary-pushing. Australia’s most productive psych-rock band. And so much more.
Albert Park’s many fine features go a long way to enhancing what is so unique about the Auckland Laneway Festival experience. Hanging out under the shade of its big trees with your besties, watching your favourite bands and checking out new, breaking artists among the towering palm trees and many statues, selfies at the ornate Victorian fountain, lunch by the large floral clock and in the very heart of this garden sanctuary, meeting up at the oldest band rotunda in the Auckland region. There is no better inner-city venue than this adored Laneway Auckland home.
